There usually aren’t too many great choices at food courts in the malls across America. Shoot, I used to work at a food court in Escondido, California.  I’ve ‘been there, done that’.

As I tell my son, I loathe going to the local mall. Not because the mall is a bad place – I just don’t like dealing with those “millennials” who hang out at the mall (and work there). That being said, I recently decided to try my luck at the food court in the Promenade Mall in Temecula, California.

Through the power of Twitter, I was tweeted by Charley’s Grilled Subs to come and try their offerings. Honestly, I was skeptical but as a honest food critic, I had to have an open mind.

As I approached the counter, I was welcomed warmly by the female cashier. I must say though – the first thing that caught my eye was the bright lights and display behind the counter. Compared to the other food court options, this place appeared super clean and bright. I had informed the cashier that I was trying Charley’s for the first time – so I was unfamiliar with the menu. She offered a few suggestions and answered several of my questions.

I ordered a Bacon Three Cheese Steak Sub with provolone, Swiss, and white American cheeses. Shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes and mayo accompanied the sub. I’m not usually a fan of hot sub sandwiches – but this was loaded with so much flavor! I savored each bite. I added a soft drink and a side of fries for an additional charge – made it a meal! I even upgraded my fried with cheddar cheese sauce, ranch, and chopped bacon pieces! They call them “Ultimate Fries” – and they are so tasty!

As I sat down at a table across from the store front, I witnessed several other guests go up to the counter to order food. I watched the cashier constantly smiling and the grill cook interacting with each guest as he prepared their subs. It was evident that these employees enjoyed working there and loved interacting with their guests.

I feel that their food is moderately priced. Not your typical fast food option – so you’ll pay a little bit more for better quality options. I will absolutely go back for another visit!
